Masquerade Ball
The masquerade ball held In the A.N.A. ballroom by the Merrymakers’ concert party on Wednesday was attended by a large number of dance patrons. A feature was the varied costuming and many of the fancy dresses showed much forethought and originality, reflecting credit on the wearers, who had made the most of what materials they could acquire. Masks were distributed at the doors, everyone entering into the spirit of fun, and dancing progressed until the early hours.
Many New Zealand and Allied servicemen were present. The ballroom was decorated with carnival effect with tiny coloured lights outlining the sound shell and the soft drinks stall, and masses of ppring blossom and bulbs were arranged on the stage. The same flowers were used to effect in the decoration of the supper balcony and tables, where refreshments were served by members of the concert party. Mr. A. Gordon acted as M.C. As a result of the ball the party raised a pleasing sum with which to provide costumes and meet other expenses involved in their good work of providing entertainment at Service camps and for patriotic committees In other centres.
