Jack Benny Entertains New Zealanders
RECORD CROWD AT BASE CAMP THEATRE (N.Z.E.F. Official News Service.) CAIRO, Aug. 28. The great open-air theatre at the New Zealand base camp was the scene of a memorable performance last night by four stars of the American radio and screen, Jack Benny, Larry Adler, Anne Lee and Winnie Shaw. The terraced hillside was packed v:lth troops estimated to numbor about 7000, making what the artists agreed was one of the most thrilling sights of their careers. It was by far the largest audience of their tour. Tlie visitors wero given a great reception and Gcnrral Freyberg’s call for cheers at the conclusion of the bright entertainment met with a t»emendous response. Jack Benny stated that he would like to givo tho New Zealanders another performance before his departure from the Middle East.
