Hon. A. H. Nordmeyer, Minister oi Health, will be spoaking in Palmerston North on September 8 as part of Mr. Hodgen’s election campaign. Mr. J. Hodgens, M.P., leaves to-day for Motueka, where lie will conduct an electioneering campaign on behalf of Major C. J. Minister of Rehabilitation. He ru’.arns to Palmerston North on September 7. The late Sergeant John William Hughes, who was reported killed on active service recently, was the eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Hughes, ol Kairanga. Born in Palmerston North, 27 years ago, ho was educated at the \airanga School and the Palmer, ton North Technical School. Subsequently for several years he worked at home, and afterwards undertook agricultural work. He enlisted in the Air Force in 1910 and after .10 months’ training in New Zealand went to Canada, where ho later graduated as a wireless operatoi and air gunner. On arriving in Eng laud, he and three other New Zealand ers were selected for special wireless studies, w r hich lie passed. At the time of his death, he was a member of the crew of a bomber.
