END OF BRILLIANT FILLY, SEA SPI The brilliant filly, Sea Spi, injured a week ago rvhen she fell after taking fright when picking grass on a roadside, died early on Saturday morning. She was one of the best of last season's two-year-olds and she was expected to go on to greater triumphs this season. By Pharelon Bay out of Ruling Spi, she carried the racing colours of Mrs. G. Lamb, of Wellington. She was trained by J. J. Waller, at Awapuni. On Sunday a week ago she was out ou the road and when she took fright and broke away from her attendant she stepped on the reins and fell. Every effort was made to save her and there was someone with her all through the week. The injury, however, was in the base of the neck, which, it was discovered, had been broken.

During her brief racing career Sea Spi started seven times and with three wins and four seconds she was never out of the money. She won £1540 in stakes. Her first race was in the Wanganui Debutant Stakes in which she oeat all but Screen. She won the Hastings Stakes, and followed that with a second to Soncy in the Wellesley Stakes. She beat all but Royal Flight iu the C.J.C. Welcome Stakes and then won tke Pioneer Handicap, beating Royal Flight by a neck. Sea Spi was second to Olga’s Pal in the Great Northern Foal Stakes and she finished her career with a brilliant win iu the Wellington Stakes.
