£50,000 Loss in Wool Store Fire in Dunedin

(Per Press Association.) DUNEDIN, Aug. 19. The wool and skin store of White and Co., Ltd., in Robert Street, near the wharf, was completely gutted as the result of a spectacular fire which occurred shortly before 7 o’clock to-night. The damage is estimated at between £40,000 and £50,000. The store contained approximately 130 bales of rabbit skins ready for export and though the inflammable nature of this material gave the fire a good hold the brigade had it under control in about half-an-hour, and also made a good save of the adjoining premises. No insurances were available to-night, but White’s loss will be heavy. The fire was attacked by five engines using the city supply, augmented from the harbour.
