Regulating Slaughter of Pigs
(Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 8. The Slaughter of Figs Control Order published in to-night’s Gazette is designed to regulate the slaughtering of pigs in the North Island by or on behalf of the holder of a licence for & meat export slaughterhouse, the holder of a meat exporters’ licence or a person carrying on a business as a bacon-curer. The order does not apply to pigs delivered by producers for slaughter on their own account. Slaughtering quotas may be fixed from time to time and allocated to operators and other person* and, where deemed necessary, similar quotas may be fixed for pigs to l>e slaughtered in a country butchers ’ slaughterhouse, and in each case it will be tbe duty of the manager of the slaughterhouse to see that the quota is not exceeded. It will be an offence to deliver pigs for slaughter otherwise than in acocrdance with the allocation and an owner of pigs may be directed to deliver them for slaughter at such a place as may be appointed. The sale of fresh pork was prohibited in May under an order which expires at the end of the present month. There has not been any official statement that the order just issued will place of the prohibition.
