District Pig Council
Mr. B. E. Keiller presided at a meeting of the executive of the Wellington District Pig Council. A letter was received from the Taranaki District Council soliciting support for a resolution requesting that the Farmers’ Federation be asked to coordinate all resolutions from the National Council of Primary Production, District Pig Councils, Farmers’ Union, Pig Breeders’ Association, National Pig Industry Council, the Farmers’ Federation and the Pig Marketing Association with a view to presenting a united front to the Government. The meeting decided to support this, and also to solicit a long-term" pig production scheme so as to give the farmers confidence. It was also decided to suggest that, as the Pig Marketing Association had been included in the list, so Should the Bacofi Curers’ Association. The supervisor (Mr. 1.. 1,. Marsdon) reported that for the greater part of the month he had been on pig-housing work; he had also attended the annual supervisors’ meeting. The council decided that in a short time the chairman and supervisor should visit Wellington and see the Ministers concerned with a view to obtaining more permits, both for building and materials. “We consider,” said the chairman, “that the first step toward better management and production, and the stability of the industry, depends on the housing of the pigs. It is with this in view that we are to visit Wellington.”
