Woodville Mayoral Election
Further to a recent announcement of the candidature of Mrs. H. P.Horne for the Woodville Mayoralty, it is now stated that Mr. Charles Forbes of Grant Street, Woodville. is also a candidate for the position. In seeking the support of the electors of the . Borough Mr. Forbes ha*s the full backing of the Council, all available members having signed his nomination paper, and also he has had the experience of 18 years service as a Councillor, a good proportion of the time he has been a member of the "Works and Finance Committee. As a tradesman Mr Forbes has been able to bring his practical experience forward at the Council table on many occasions and this has been of direct benefit to the Council—respresenting the ratepayers. As a member of the Works and Finance Committee, Mr. Forbes has gained au intimate knowledge of the detail of Borough operations and this should fit him for greater responsibilities. Although Mr. Forbes was rather modest when approached to stand for the Mayoralty, he expressed his desire to be of further help in the deliberations of the Council if it was desired and assured the deputation of his continued lively interest in the solid progress of the Borough. Mr. Forbes also served on the Woodville Fire Board as the Borough representative for one term, and at the present time he is Borough Bepresentative on the Dannevirke Hospital Board. Advice has been received by the Woodville County Council that the reservation respecting the Kumeroa scenic reserve had been revoked and the land would now be regarded as ordinary Crown land. The letter from the Commissioner of Crown Lands containing this information was read at a meeting of the council, when Cr. M. O. Grainger presided. It was decided to co-operate with the Manawatu-Oroua River Board and the Palmerston North River Board in the scheme to establish a system of rainfall gauges and flood warnings in the Manawatu River catchment area. The ranger in his report stated he had found 13 cows and four horses wandering on the roads during the mouth. The danger of horses being allowed to graze on the roads at night was stressed by councillors and stern measures are to be taken to prevent the trouble continuing.
