Fewer U-Boat Sinkings

NEW YORK, Feb. 28. The Associated Press says that during February the Navy Department announced the sinkings of sis cargo vessels in the Westorn Atlantic by Axis submarines. The February figure is the lowest monthly total since Pearl Harbour and compares with 30 sinkings in January, 1943. During the first year of the war over 45 ships were sunk monthly in the Western Atlantic.

The number of alerts in Malta during February was a low record for the island, there being only three in all.
