Farm Labour Costs
“One farmer in this room to-day has had to pay scrub cutters 3s 3d an hour, plus meat.’' declared Mr. It. O. Montgomerie (Kakatahi), referring to the high costs of farm maintenance at a meeting of the Wanganui provincial executive of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union. He added that in spite of higher expenditure farmers were not receiving the same value for the money paid out. In some cases the work was not done properly unless the mcu were supervised.
