Mr. V. W, Colville, of Christchurch, who has been appointed headmaster of the Palmerston North Central School in succession to Mr. E. Bary, has had 33 years’ service with the Education Department and has spent most of it in the South Island. For the past two and a half years ho has been headmaster of the Richmond School and prior to that was headmaster at North Brighton for six years. He filled a similar position at Runanga for two years.
The following members of the R.N.Z.A.V.R. have been promoted to temporary acting sub-lieutenants (says the Press Association’s special London correspondent) :—N. T. Sutton (Christchurch), J. A. W. Okeby and R. Stacey (both of Wellington), F. J. O’Brien (Whakatane), and D. G. Woarsorth and C. R. Wintringham. The following members of the Fleet Air Arm are also promoted to the same rank: C. Honoro (Wellington), E. P. Jones (Christchurch), D. V. Fitzpatrick (Te Aroha), also J. I. Delaney, R. I. Cumming, J. Fenwick and G. W. Miles. W. V. Stark, of Levin, is promoted to temporary midshipman. Warrant-Officer Trevor H. Bagnall, who has been reported missing on air operations, is the second son of Mr. and Mrs. H. G. Bagnall, of Te Awe Awe Street, Palmerston North. Born in this city 26 years ago, he was educated at the Huntley School, Marton, and Christ’s College/ Christchurch, subsequently joining the firm of Messrs Bagnall and Keeble, of which his father is a member. He enlisted in the R.N.Z.A.F. in February, 1040, and was trained in New Zealand and later in Scotland. He was posted to the Bomber Command and piloted a Wellington bomber in 34 raids. Subsequently he was flying a Stirling four-engined bomber.
