Dannevirke candidates in the recent University Entrance Scholarship examination who qualified for the award of University national ordinary bursaries and who are eligible to apply for boarding bursaries are:—William H. Olliver, Bruce H. McDowell, and Rex E. Bond (Hop elands). Just how great a part women, quite unostentatiously, play in the cause of patriotic effort, is often overlooked and in Feilding’s organisation for the visit of the Royal New Zealand Air Force Band, the women made a very valuable contribution towards the success of the enter- j tainment. The patriotic dance called for j a great deal of organisation and the women undertook the handling of the supper arrangements which, because of the crowd, rather taxed the band of will-, ing helpers who cheerfully met every de- , mand. Again yesterday they were cheerfully carrying on fulfilling services for j which their capacity for organising pro- j vides an adequate and satisfying answer. In a hundred and one different ways the women of Feilding, associated with the several patriotic organisations, are performing unselfishly duties which go far towards making- for the success of the town’s and district’s patriotic effort. The men members do their part readily and willing, but this tribute is due the women who have given wonderful assistance. More help is wanted on the male side and a stronger organisation is required as the job is sincere.
