Tremendous Decline In Livestock in Europe

SERIOUS POST-WAR PROBLEM (British Official Wireless.) Received Thursday, 9.20 p.m. RUGBY, Jan. 27. It is estimated that the decline of livestock in enemy-occupied Allied countries as a result of lack of feeding stuffs requisitioning and slaughter is ‘in the region of 1,000,000 cattle, 3,000,0 i horses, 12,000,000 pigs and 11,000,000 sheep, according to figures revealed in a report prepared by Allied agricultural experts. The report draws attention to the fact that the decline constitutes a serious menace both to post-war food supplies and to the future of European agriculture. Milking production has gone down by more than a third, meat production by nearly half, and the reduction in breeding animals is sue' that recovery to pre-war numbers wi l take many years and the lack o draught animals may be a serious hindrance to cultivation for the first post-war harvest.
