The Wanganui Education Board met at Wanganui yesterday.

Linton: The department notified a grant for improvements to the Jfchool residence.

College Street: The committee asked that Primer 4 children who will be in Standard 1 this year, be retained at College Street instead of going to Hokowhitu School.—The matter is wrapped up with the getting back of the Intermediate School and the board decided to seek information from the department as to when the Intermediate building would be actually handed back. Foxton D.H.: The prosecution of a parent for failure to send his child to school was authorised. Mr. W. I. Mudford said many other Foxton parents needed prosecuting as well. They were very neglectful of the education of their children, some of whom were working in market gardens. Incidentals: Regulations were recently amended to permit a charge against the general account for purchase or hire of any educational apparatus or equipment or any other material approved by the Minister. Central: An additional subsidy of £lO for asphalting was granted. Swimming: The department notified that'a grant for swimming instruction would again be available this year. Schools arc invited to submit applications for grants towards the cost, of conveying children for swimming instruction. Accidents: The department advised that in future parents of children involved in accidents must take advantage of hospital and medical benefits under the Social Security Act.
