Boarders “Aboard the Lugger”
FEILDING STUDENTS’ COMIC OPERA For the cause that needs assistance, the patriotic funds (substantially helped), student boarders at the Feilding Agricultural High School staged the comic two-act opera, “Once Aboard the Lugger,” on Saturday night. The commodious James Easby Knight Memorial Hall, taxed to its seating limit, presented a gay appearance witn greenery and other effective and highly decorative camouflage. The lads entered into, their melodious task with a vim that shot to pieces any threat of nervousness, so that the joyous audience really had a good time. Mr. H. V. Baigent, whose gifts as a producer are known to the intelligensia of Palmerston North, inspired liis pupils and the director of music (Mrs. A. L. Dixon) turned much of that inspiration into vigorous melody, the combined effort being most enjoyable, not only in the high spots, but throughout the two acts and three scenes. The lads of the lugger and of the cannibal island associated were alloted their parts as follows:—Cast: Mate, J. Weatherell; Bosun, B. Campbell; Tom, J. Eastwood; Captain, P. Taylor; Studgy Meagles, J. Rhodes; Cannibal King, R. White, His Chief . Scout, R. Grant; Lizzie. Crew, G. H-oneyfield, N. Blundell, J. Craddock, M. Atkinson, D. Griffin, W. Holmes. Ballet, M. Parkinson, K. Harris, A. Crane, L. Scott, C. Kemp, D. Wilson. Wives, H. Richards, J. Best, M. Haawe. Cannibals, Tuauru, T. Wilson, F. Matthews, A. McLean, J. Harris and D. Mac Nab. Yes, decidedly a good show!
