Genoa Again Blasted By 4000-pounders

HUGE FIRES; NO PLANES LOST Received Sunday, 9.20 p.m. RUGBY, Nov. 14. The Air Ministry states: “Laot, night the Bomber Command attacked Genoa. The weather was good over the target and many large fires were started. None of our aircraft is missing.” This is Genoa’s third raid in eight days. It is also announced in London that this afternoon, Flying Fortresses and Liberators bombed the German submarine bases at La Pallice and St. Nazaire. Allied fighters made sweeps and diversionary sweeps in Northwestern France. No aircraft are missing from these operations. Air Ministry reports indicate that the defences of Genoa had been reinforced by last night. There were many more searchlights than in the previous attack and more heavy and light anti-aircraft guns, while flak ships fired from the harbour. Over France, there were many German night fighters, one of which was seen to fall in flames. In spite of these defences and the long journey over the Alps, not one of the whole force is missing. “Another pair of white gloves,” said Air Marshal Harris. Two night attacks have now been made on Genoa from Britain without loss. Last night, 4000 and 1000-pound bombs were dropped in largo numbers, while nuge fires spread from incendiaries dropped in thousands. Lancasters and Stirlings bombed Genoa last night. The sky was cloudless over the city and the targets were clearly identified by flames. Tho attack was well concentrated. A Rome communique says: “Numerous British air formations last night again bombed Genoa and caused great damage, especially to civilian houses in the central and eastern parts of the city. The casualties have not yet been ascertained. ’» The Yugoslav Government says informants, who have been in Italy, say that Genoa suffered damage totalling 60,000,000 sterling by the R.A.F. raids before last night’s raid.
