Liberty Loan Oversubscribed

PRIME MINISTER WARNS AGAINST OVER-OPTIMISM Per Presa Association. WELLINGTON, Nov. 15. The second Liberty Loan was oversubscribed by £300,000, the Prime Minister announced on Saturday night. He said the figures then available showed that 24,000 applications totalling £10,300,000 had been received and more was to come. ‘ ‘ This is really a splendid response and is ample proof that the people of this country are determined to give full financial support to the country’s war effort,” said Mr. Fraser. “To all the individuals who contributed I offer my sincere thanks. 1 would like to stress that it is from the collective efforts of the individual citizen that the State derives its power as well as its strength. All New Zealand takes just pride in the fact that no country has a finer fighting force than ours. I can think of no more practical way of celebrating the victory than by contributing toward the cost of their their arms and maintenance. “The present is the time for the redoubling of our effort to enable the democratic forces to exploit the moment of success. The new spirit of optimism and rejoicing to-day which is derived from the victories in Egypt and the landings of the United States and British forces iu North Africa should not blind any thinking citizen to the fact that our own shores aro by no means free from danger. No one could foresee the vicissitudes of war. A few weeks, even a few days, may well bring about a lessening or an increase of tiie dangers confronting us.” PALMERSTON NORTH FIGURES Saturday’s receipts were 179 applications for £15,210, making the district figures 1777 applications for £264,515. Additional amounts received include: Brick and Pipes, Ltd., £500; Mr. A. E. llanscl, £250; King and Toppett, Ltd., £100; Manawatu Tyre Rebuilders, Ltd., £100; Mr. Benjamin Cohen, £2O. The Second Liberty Loan Committee thanks all those who have assisted in the Pal merston North campaign.
