Obituary
DANIEL REES DAVIES. There passed away at Waituna West suddenly, on July 22, a respected resident of Tapuae, in the person of Daniel Rees Davies, at the age of 67 years. Born at Parewanui he was the secoud son of the late John Rees and Emily Davies. His marriage took place at Feilding to Miss Mary Catherine MeDougall, of Dunolly, there being a family of two sons and three daughters, namely, Messrs. W., R. and M. Davies, Miss Ruby M. Davies (Bella), Mrs. C. H. Leicester (Margaret) and Mrs. J. P. Leicester. To them and their mother much sympathy has been extended. The eldest son, Mr. J. D. R. Davies, predeceased his father only five month age. The late Mr. Davies was a pioneer of the Tapuae district, having lived there 50 years and during that period, through hospitality extended to fellow pioneers, his home was known to many as the 1 ‘ half way house. ’ ’ He held the position of commissioner of the local school for many years. In his younger days he was a keen supporter of the Cheltenham Rifle Club, having won many trophies. One of his many characteristics was his love and fondness for all animals. The funeral took place at the Feilding Cemetery. Rev. F. B. Fluery, of Kimbolton, conducted services "both at the residence and cemetery. Rev. K. A. Robinson also participated in the services. Among the many floral tributes was one from the firm of Abraham and Williams and one from the Waituna Women's Institute. The pall bearers were Messrs. W. Davies, L. Meads, J. P. Leicester, K. A. Robinson, T. D. Stokes, and C. H. Leicester Also at the cemetery, Mr. H. D. Richardson, O. Davies and N. Shannon.
