Higher Price for Wheat Wanted
I’er Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, April 22. An increase in the price fixed by the Government for wheat is to be sought by the North Canterbury district of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, and a request will be made to the Minister for Bupply (Hon. D. G. Sullivan) during his visit to Christchurch tomorrow. After a long discussion, much of which was in committtee, the executive of the union decided to-day to urge that the proposed increase should be sufficient to cover the increased costs of production. “Costs are certainly rising against us and it is just a question whether the farmers can undertake increased wheatgrowing at the ordinary price,” said Mr. R. G. Bishop (president.) “I believe something will have to be done to make the position more equitable. Those fanners who are going in for sheep are coming out far better than those who are responding to the Government’s request to grow more wheat,”
