BUT WILL NOT FIGHT Received Wednesday, 9.30 p.m. CAIRO, April 22. Winding up a two-day Chamber debate Nanas Pasha reaffirmed that the basis of Egypt’s foreign policy was to avoid war. Nevertneless the Government would take strong action for the safety of the British troops and their Allies while they were on Egyptian soil to defend democracy. The Prime Minister said: “I will never take any action calculated to iead Egypt to war nor will I provide the Allied armies with Egyptian manpower. Nevertheless I will remain loyal to the British-Egyptian Treaty doth in the letter and spirit. Nor will I tolerate any action by any Egyptian which would in any way endanger the military security of our ally or cause anxiety to those who are now fighting for the very existence of democracy and freedom. That is my policy and I want our ally to know this.” The Chamber passed a vote of confidence in the Government by 185 votes to 5.
