Japs Ignore Requests For Names of Prisoners
Received Tuesday, 8.50 p.m. LONDON, April 20.
The War Office spokesman said that the Japanese have made no effort to furnish the British Government with the names of servicemen and civilians captured at Singapore and elsewhere in the Far East. The protecting Power, Argentina, is doing its utmost to establish contact with our people but has so far been unsuccessful. A representative of the Red Cross War Prisoners’ Department said the Japanese did not allow International Red Cross delegates to visit any prisoner’ camps outside Japan. It seemed that they wanted to clean up all the occupied territory before allowing the Red Cross in.
