WANGANUI EDUCATION BOARD MEETS The Wanganui Education Board met yesterday at Wanganui. Reports showed:— Kangiotu: The work in connection with the erection of the new school building and outbuildings is fairly well advanced. In the absence of tilers the building is being covered by the board's staff. The completion of this job will be delayed in view of the restriction of the use of cement. The building is one with an exterior plaster finish and until cement is made avaii--1 able, the exterior walls cannot bo comI pleted, nor can the concreto areas be 1 laid. However, the woodwork and * other trades can be brought to completion. Trench. Digging: To those schools J which have been declared as in the vulnerable areas, arrangements have been made for the committees to proceed with the construction of slit trenches. The schools within this category are: Bulls, Ohakea, Sanson, Milson's Line, Foxton, Terrace End, Russell Street, Hokowhitu, College Street, West End and Palmerston North Central. Works Suspended: The architect reported several instances of work having been held up owing to the transfer of labour to a military camp. The carrying out of maintenance works will depend largely on the ability to secure the labour which may be added to the board’s own staff, or the aid of local contractors. Works adjoining any new building works that may be going on will, of course, receive attention by the board’s staff.. Mr. Hodge added: “We are holding a fair amount of manufactured goods, which perhaps is fortunate in view of the curtailment of staff by the call of so many to military service. The board is fortunate, too, to be holding a fair stock of timber and other materials which enables its work to be carried out with little inconvence in consequence of the shortage of many building lines which is being experienced throughout the country. ’ ’ Staff Changes Appointments: Mr. J.
