GERMAN ARRESTED IN EIRE

(Rec. 5, 1.5* LONDON, Dec. 4. The police In Dublin last night arrested a German believed to have been dropped by parachute in Eire 18 months ago. The arrest is a sequel to the case heard in Dublin in June 1940, when Stephen Held, of Dublin, waa sentenced to five years’ imprisonment for aiding an unknown man to secure information likely to be prejudicial to the safety of the State. The police then said that they were looking for a man named Brandt. The police believe that the man now arrested is Herman Goertz, who was sentenced at Maidstone in 1936 to four years’ imprisonment for espionage and deported to Germany in February 1939 before completing the sentence. Brandt was the alias used by Goertz.
