Watering McLean Street ‘ ‘ The county ratepayers living in Upper McLean 'Street suffer considerably on race days from dust nuisance, owing to the heavy traffic. We hope you will minimise this nuisance by watering the road,” stated a letter before the County Council yesterday, from Mr. C. A. Sutton.—The chairman (Mr. M. O. Grainger) considered that the responsibility was not the council’s. The engineer, however, had arranged to water the road, if sufficient water is available, ho addod. The engineer (Mr. W. J. Hawkes) contended that it was useless to try and cart water from the nearby creek, because, he said, the first covering would be dried up before a second could be distributed. Councillors agreed that, if water is available in sufficient quantity, the job should be carried out. In tho course of the discussion, tho possibility of a serious accident being caused by flying dust was mentioned.
