M Being too well known himself to lay the offender by the heels, he sent for two detectives from a neighbouring town and explained matters to them. Th« detectives i visited the inn, and after calling for drinks, inquired the odds for a certain race and were told, 5 to 1 bar three. [“Now,** they thought gleefully, “we have him. ’ } ‘‘What three to you bar?*' was the next inquiry. The innkeeper smiled pleasantly as he answered. “ You fcWQ aad the inspector.'*
