National Savings as Prizes
The district organiser for National Savings (Mr. A. C. F. Charles) was approached yesterday by the chairman og the Fitzherbert East School Committee, Mr. A. H. Ferguson, who said that the committee and the teaching staff had agreed that this year, instead of the children receiving prizes such as books, etc., a National Savings account would be opened for each of the 52 children with a deposit equal in value to the prize usually awarded. Each child who already has an account will, of course, have the amount deposited therein. The scheme is an excellent one, said Mr. Charles, and the committee and head teacher, Miss Pay, are to be congratulated on solving the prize problem in such a laudable and novel manner. Perhaps other schools will now follow the example set by Fitzherbert WesL
