Nazis Held Along Whole Front

LONDON, Nov. 7.

The Russian news is more cheerful, The Soviet troops have frustrated von Leeb’s new attempt to break into Leningrad. The Russians on this front, indeed, continue aggressive actions. Fierce fighting continues on the Moscow front, particularly at Kalinin and Tula. The Germans on the Moscow front have made no appreciable progress in the past week, and at some places have yielded ground. There has been no development in the Crimean push since yesterday, but the situation remains serious. The Germans claim that a large-scale battle is raging in the Yaila Mountains, where they are systematically reducing the powerful casemates. The battle for Rostov, gateway to the Caucasus, seems to be at a standstill. The Italians are fighting hard north of Stalin and the Hungarians on the Donelz River, but there is no indication, of territorial changes. The Stockholm correspondent of the Daily Telegraph reports that the Russians east of Stalin counter-attacked and halted the Italians at the village of Voroshilovsk, 25 miles east of Voroshilovgrad. The Russians, he says, halted the Germans live miles oast of Kursk, half-way between Tula and Kharkov.
