Mr. Maurice .Bright, of the staff of the National Bank, Palmerston North, has received notice of his transfer to {Stratford. He will take up his new position early next month. The many friends of Mr. Frank .roves, former cycling champion of .iew Zealand, will regret to learn that no is on the dangerously ill list at the Palmerston North. Hospital at present. His wife and mother arrived from Christchurch yesterday.
The death is announced in Christchurch of Mr. Phineas Selig, former manager of the Christchurch Press Company, Limited, and a pioneer in trotting administration in New Zealand, aged 85 years. Mr. Belig was well known as one of the Dominion's most prominent newspapermen when he retired in 19:13 after fifty years in journalism and thirty years as manager of the Christchurch Press. He founded the N.Z. Referee in 1881 and ten years later the Referee was purchased by the X’ress but Mr. iSelig remained as editor, later becoming manager of the Press Company. He was president of* the N.Z. Newspaper Proprietors' Association for 13 years, a director and later chairman of the United Press Association of New Zealand and first president of the N.Z. Federation of Master Printers.
