General Notes
Home Guard Parade Due probably to many of the distant members being engaged in shearing operations, Thursday’s Home Guard parade was rather poorly attended. Routine instruction was advanced. County Rates The clerk (Mr. J. M. Graham) reported to the County Council on Friday that rates collected to date totalled £843 19s sd. Rates outstanding amounted to £5487 11s Id. All-Day Parade Another all-day parade of the local members of the W.E.C.AI.R. will take place to-morrow. Sergeant Ashdown, of Alasterton, will, as usual, be in charge. Contribution to Barnardo Homes
The Dannevirke North School, branch of the Young Barnardo Helpers had their annual box-opening on Tuesday last, when the sum of £l2 7s 4d was contributed, the highest for many years. This does not include the Christmas gift, yet to. come. The number of pupils in the branch is 45, and it is evident that many have made real sacrifices to assist the great family of Barnardo orphans. It is hoped to increase greatly the membership of the branch.
