RACEHORSE WORTH £1
Tho Southland Provincial Patriotic Fund owns a racehorse, but it is apparently not thought to be a potential winner, judged from an item on the asset side of the balance-sheet presented at a meeting of the Southland Provincial Patriotic Council. This read: “Racehorse, Forecast—nominal value £l." One member, however, assured the meeting that Forecast was worth a bit more than that. The horse was presented to the fund with the idea that it might be used to raise money by means of a raffle, but so far no raffle has been arranged, and the horse remains the property of the "fund. VICTORIA RACING CLUB RAIDED MELBOURNE, Nov. S. Eight detectives raided the Victoria Racing Club to-night during the “calling of the card" on the Melbourne Cup. Upwards of 700 persons were prevented from leaving during the! detectives' visit, which caused a sensation.
