Russell Street School
The- monthly meeting of the school committee was held on Monday evening. Mr. C. P. Collins was appointed to fill the vacancy, and Mr. Dive, the acting Headmaster, was in attendance. Notification was received from the .Education Board that Mr. Garret Tangney of the Miramar school had been appointed Headmaster and will commence duties at the beginning of next year. Pending his arrival, Mr. Dive is acting headmaster and Mrs. Ho bin is acting as relieving assistant. In his report to the committee, Mr. Dive stated that the average school roll was 213 so that the staffing and grading of the &chool for next year would remain the same as at present. Despite the prevalence, of a mild form of measles, the - average attendance had been 93 per cent. During the month the school had been visited by Mr. Blake, Senior Inspector, and Miss Ballantyne. The acting headmaster reported on the arrangement made for the evacuation of schools under the E.P.S., and the arrangements suggested met with the entire approval of the committee. Authority was given for the purchase of a quantity of infant j room material by Miss Fowles, and also for the purchase of a number of necessary reading books for the other classes. The Education Board reported \ the grant of the subsidy for the cost of top-dressing the asphalt drive, and the work is to be put in hand immediately. ' The Board is being asked to put in hand a number of small repairs to the building and also to remove a number of desks which for the past nine months have been stored in the children’s shelter sheds.
