Sixteen Chinese Raids in a Week

20,000 JAPANESE CASUALTIES Received Tuesday, 9.50 p.m. CHUNGKING, Sept. 2. The military spokesman said the Chinese were most gratified with the result of the 16 raids against the Japanese iu Eastern China last week. The operations ranged over 890 kilometres east and west of Foochow resulting in 20,000 Japanese casualties. AMERICAN AIRMEN EN ROUTE TO CHINA Received Tuesday, 31.55 p.m. BATAVIA, Bept. 2. It is reliably stated that at the end of last week 30 United States pilots passed through Batavia en route to Chungking. The fact that the pilots accompanied their own planes and equipment aboard ship made it impossible that they will act as instructors. Apparently they will form a separate squadron.
