“All Quiet” Means Ceaseless Activity
AUSTRALIAN NIGHT RAID AT TOBRUK Received Tuesday, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, Sept. i. Ceaseless activity underlies tho superficial “all quiet” of the British and Australian troops at Tobruk. Typical is the story of a sortie in the FI Adem sector on the night of August 30 in w’hich the raiders crawled in single filo two miles through a ipinefield and attacked an observation post, the position of which had been revealed by reconnaissances on the previous day. The pat”ol started after midnight and was almost ready for the final attack when Verey lights lit up the scene and the enemy post opened up rifle and machine-gun fire. The British patrol then charged with bayonets, tommyguns and grenades despite a volley of hand-grenades from the enemy. The patrol stormed into the post and killed fifteen and wounded many of the enemy who totalled about fifty before
cross-fire from supporting posts forced a witkei. wal The patrol regained their 11 -e.' with only slight casualties.
