Russell Street School

The monthly meeting of the committee was held on Monday evening. Mr. j C. O. Brill was appointed to fill the' vacancy on the committee. The head-! master, Mr. J. Connor, tendered his resignation and intimated that lie would bo taking up his new duties in Wellington on September Bth. The resignation was accepted with regret and appreciative references were made to the chairman and members of the commit-! tee of the excellent service Mr. Connor j lias rendered to the school and 'to educational affairs during his four years I as headmaster of the school. No ad-j I vice had been received as to the' appointment of a successor and the ! headmaster intimated that his first ! assistant would probably carry on as acting-headmaster until a permanent headmaster was appointed. A copy of; the Centennial book, “City of * the j Strait," by Alan Mulgan, was received from the City Council for the school library and accepted with thanks. The committee's representatives on the School Committees’ Association were requested to make representations with i a view to reports on the efficiency of ' the school being made annually as heretofore instead of every two years. Miss P. M. Hastings, who has been appointed to the school staff, is to commence duties on September S. Mr. N. E. Hansen tendered his resignation and the vacancy is to be filled at the next meeting.
