Former Resident Passes

MR. JOSEPH CARSON There passed away in the Hamilton Hospital on Saturday evening a former widely-respected resident of VVoodville in tho person of Mr. Joseph Carson at the age of 76 years. Born in County Antrim, Ireland, tho late Mr. Carson came to New Zealand when 18 years of age and was subsequently employed on the Cameron Estate, in Canterbury. Ho was later employed by the late Mr. William Nelson in the latter’s freezing works at Tomoana, coming to Woodville when Nelson Bros, first opened their freezing works in the district about 50 years ago. Subsequently Mr. Carson was employed in a private capacity on Mr. VV. H. Nelson’s “Kakoa” estate, and altogether he spent some 25 years’ service with tho Nelson interests. Wink* a resident of Woodville he married Miss Mary Rendle, of Woodlands Road, in 1893.

On leaving Woodville, the late gentleman took up farming at Whakatane, later transferring his interest to Rotohuna, where he resided until his death.

Tho late Mr. Carson is survived by his widow, three daughters, Mrs. W. Young (Frankton), Mrs. Jones (Claudelands) and Miss Molly Carson (Rotohuna), and three sons, Hector (Masterton), Edwin (Rotohuna) and Samuel (Otorohanga). Another son, Fred, passed away within a few months of his return from service in the Great War.

Miss A. Carsofi and Mr. B._ Carson, of Woodville, are .sister and brother respectively of deceased, while Mr. Josiah Carson, well known in this district, is another brother.
