National Party Activities

A mooting of the executive committee of the xsatidnal Party in the Palmerston North electorate was held on Mouduy evening at the National Club. Mr. J. Al. Uoruon, the party's selected candidate, was warmiy welcomed uy a large attendance ox "committee members, and in particular was he congratulated upon his selection by his rival nominee, Mr. Al. n. uram, who offered to assist Mr. Gordon's candidature to tho utmost of his anility. The chairman commented upon the very iiiendjy spirit shown by uotu gentlemen, aud me fact that tnis applied likewise to the supporters ox eacu throughout tho city, fa* view of the fact tnat an election vvouid almost certainly be held and this within two or tnree uiouihs iu ail probability, steps were taken to organise; aud aa a strenuous campaign is to be expected, it was determined that the electorate should be organised completely and thoroughly. To this end a mosl important decision mado was- that suburban branches should be formed in tho four quarters of tno city. An early start will bo made aud from indications, it was stated, this move will meet with most enthusiastic reception. The iormation of tneso brandies will enablo electors iu all parts of tho city to meet Mr. Gordon and maintain close contact with him as the party's candidate. Aionibcrs and supporters will shortly bo advised when tfio branch formation meetings will tako place aud thereafter will be kept well posted upon political developments affecting the city. Y’arious subcommittees were set up to devote especial attention to several aspects oi the campaign that must be now prepared for Mr. Gordon created a very favourable impression by the grasp of political principles and ideals he revealed at the meeting. The lady menu bers of the committee were able to advise that their section was in excellent condition of organisation aud showed much enthusiasm.
