Fines and Penalties
MAGISTRATE’S COURT PROCEEDINGS Mr. H. P. Lawry, S.M., presided at the sitting of the Magistrate’s Court in Palmerston North yesterday. M. J. Murphy, who drove a gig at night without a light, was fined £2 with 13s costs. His action in so doing resulted in two cars colliding. I 1. Willis admitted driving a car while i not a licensed driver and paid a fine of j 10s with 12s costs. For not having a j warrant of fitness for the car he was j fined £1 with 10s costs. E. J. Rose was fined £7 with 11s costs ; for driving over a railway crossing in one Square when a train was approching. Arthur Witt, a slaughterman, who failed to register in the first division of the national reserve in tne prescribeu time, was fined £2 with 12s costs. C. Barr, for failing to give way to traffic on his right, was fined £3 with 3s costs. He was involved in a collision, j Edith Florence Gregory, a young j woman charged with failing to report to the police according to the conditions of her release ou probation, was sent to tho Borstal institution for a year. 1 She had had many chances to make good, according to Probation Officer, vV.
