22 Killed in British Air-liner Disaster
RUGBY, Aug. 12. The ix.x Ministry much regrets to announce that last Sunday a transoceanic aircraft flew into a hillside shortly after taking off from Britain. Twenty-two passengers and the crew lost their lives. A shepherd’s dog coming to him with something in his mouth which he recognised as jiart of a plane led to the discovery of the wrecked United Statesbound plane only two miles from a village lying at the foot of a mountain ridge. The villagers heard the aeroplane’s engines between 8.30 p.m. and 10.8. The machine must have crashed within a few seconds, although the wreckage was not discovered until 24 hours later. The victims comprised six Canadians, eight Britishers and seven Americans, including ferry pilots, one of whom was an Australian.
