Three building permits for work valued at £IB7O were issued in the Manawatu county during July. Donations to the Feilding Patriotic Society’s fund are acknowledged as follow: J. N. McDonald, £1; “M, ” 10s; Mrs. E. W., £1; Mrs. Aldis, £1; A.D., £1; J. Brown (Waituna), 10s.

Leading Aircraftman A. H. Wood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Wood, of Recce Street, Feilding, who has been stationed at Wigram Air Station for some time, is home on leave.

Despite restricted load limits, it was stated at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council that heavily laden motor lorries continued to travel over the Kopane bridge over the Oroua River.

Tho indisposition of Cr. W. E. Pearce was referred to at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council by the chairman (Cr. W. E. Barber), who said that in a letter to him Cr. Pearce said that he was making steady progress. In granting him leave of absence councillors expressed the hope for speedy recovery.

Cr. H. J. Fagan reported at yesterday’s meeting of the Manawatu County Council that steps were being taken to organise a branch of the Women’s War Service Auxiliary in tho county. The co-operation of all women’s committees had been solicited. Mr. H. V. Bond had been appointed secretary and a meeting was to be held at Bongotea shortly.

The friends of Mr. Henry Goldsack, of .Nelson Street, Feilding, will learn with regret of his death, which occurred on Monday. Mr. Goldsack was wellknown in the Feilding district, having been a farmer at Aorangi for a number of years, and also at Kongotea. Mrs. Goldsack predeceased her husband several years ago. Deceased leaves an adult family to mourn his passing. Mr. H. A. Goldsack, of Aorangi, is a son, and to him and other members of the family the sympathy of many friends has been extended.

The Ifunterville district has made a handsome contribution to the All Purposes Patriotic Fund Appeal which closed at the end of July. From information received by Mr. C. H. Tate, zone patriotic secretary, yesterday it was learned that the Hunterville Patriotic Committee has a sum of £2llO in the bank ready to be remitted on account of this appeal. In addition the Hunterville district contributed just over £2OO to the radio appeal on Anzac Day night so that the district has found a total of £2311 for the All Purposes Appeal Fund. In each of the three appeals for patriotic funds the Hunterville district has responded most generously.

News has been received in Feilding of the death at Auckland of Dr. E. M. Livesey, at the age of 71 years. For many years he lived in Feilding and disposed of his practice to Dr. K. *G. Salmond some 20 years ago, when he retired to Auckland. Dr. Livesey was a keen and liberal member of the Church of England, and was for some years on the vestry\ of St. John’s Church. He had a great love for flowers and was a good supporter of tho Feilding Beautifying Society. On his retirement from Feilding he left certain funds to be expended on beaut ideation work in tho borough. The Livesey Cup, presented to thb Manchester Street School f<fr the annual swimming championship for girls, is an additional reminder of his interest in Feilding.
