Australian Government To Grow Vegetables
MEETING DEMANDS OF TROOPS OVERSEAS Received Tuesday, 11.20 p.m. SYDNEY, Aug. 12. The Commonwealth Government has embarked on vegetable growing on a large scale in order to meet the demands of the Australian Imperial troops. The Government has requisitioned sufficient seed to plant 3000 acres in Victoria and New South Wales, chiefly beans and peas which will be canned and exported. A shipment of 1300 bags of New Zealand brown onions is meeting with an excellent demand here at £25 a ton. It has relieved the shortage from Victoria.
