Pigs, Poultry and Produce

The Dominion Auctioneering Co., Ltd., Palmerston North, report receiving an exceptionally heavy yarding of pigs on Thursday, the accommodation being taxed to the utmost. A large attendance of buyers were present and a total clearance was made at satisfactory rates. Poultry was again in demand, heavy hens selling to 5s 4d each, pullets to 7s 9d and prime young ducks to 5s 3d each. Large supplies came forward in the fruit and produce section, lettuce, parsnips, Brussels sprouts and celery commanding high values, while other lines sold well in comparison.

Pigs: Best weaners, 15s to 20s each; medium, 12s to 14s; best slips, 23s t.o 26s 6d each; medium, ISs to 21s each; heavy stores, 30s to 36s each; medium stores, 24s to 28s each; light porkers, 28s Gd to £2 7s 6d each; choppers, to £2 15s; sows and litters, £5 ss, £5 17s Gd, £8 2s 6d to £8 ss; sows to farrow, to £3 2s 6d.

Poultry: Heavy hens, 4s lid to 5s 4d each; medium hens, 3s 6d to 4s 4d; best W.L. hens, 3s to 4s each; young ducks, •Is 3d to 5s 3d each; old ducks, 3s 6d to 3s 9d each; good pullets, 6s 9d to 7s 9d each; medium, 4s 8d to 6s each; turkey lions, 5s to 6s 6d each; gobblers, 13s to 15s each; heavy cockerels, 4s to 5s 6d each; medium cockerels, 3s 6d to 3s 9d each.

Produce: ’Grapefruit, 10s to 13s per case; celery, 19s to 22s 6d per case; cabbages, Savoy 6s to 10s Gd per sack, drumhead 8s fid to 10s per sack; cauliflowers, 8s to 14s per sack; leeks, 5s to 6s 6d per case; lettuce, 12s to 15s per case.; pumpkins, triumble 9s to 11s per sack, reds 10s to 11s Gd per sack; swedes, 4s to 5s per sack; beetroot, 4s to Ss per case; raddishes, 2s 6d to 3s per dozen; white turnips, 6d to Sd per bunch; Brussels sprouts, Sd to lOd per lb.; silver beet, 3s to 5s per case; onions 12s 6d to per bag; potatoes, 14s to 15s per cwt.
