Russell Street School
Mr. Grant (chairman) presided at the monthly meeting of the committee on Monday evening. There were also present Messrs. W. A. Boniface, P. R, Walker, D. MeDowall, E. A. Shackleton, R. R, Williams (secretary) and J. Connor (headmaster). The resignation of Miss Lethaby was received and Miss McDonald is filling the position temporarily. The roll stands at 209. The average attendance for June was 184, which was an improvement on the preceding month. The school is to be closed on Wednesday afternoon to enable the children to attend the reception to the Governor-General. The headmaster reported that the school had been visited by the school nurse. The first aid outfit is to be replenished. Some criticism had been received regarding the new physical drill classos. The headmaster explained that although it was desirable for the children to have drill costumes it was not in any way compulsory and further that (luring cold weather the children were not required to remove any of their outer clothing during the physical exercises.
