Turkish Protest Against Shelling of Steamer

CARRYING SUPPLIES FOR SYRIA Roceived Tuesdav, 7.30 p.m. LONDON, July 8. The Times says the Turkish Government made representations to Britain about the shelling of the Saint Didier. The truth is that the Saint Didier was laden with Vichy supplies and was using the Turkish coast as a kind of covered way to Syria, abusing iteutral rights. After raising the matter with Ankara the British attacked the ship and apparently some damage was done to small Turkish vessels nearby, for which the British authorities are regretful, and the British Ambassador is communicating with the Turkish Government concerning the incident.
