Details of Japanese Demands
ALL TURNED DOWN BY DUTCH Received Thursday, 2 a.m, TOKxO, June 18. The Government Information Board’s spokesman (Mr. Ishii), announcing Mr. Yosflizawa’s recall, said the Japanese Government coulu not remain indifferent to tne spread of the war to the South Seas, also Japan’s economic relations witn the Indies were gravely affected as a result of the indies’ mobilisation for Mr. Ishii outlined Japanese requests to the xndies which includes: (1) Participation in the development of the abundant Indies’ natural xosources; (2) Japanese immigration and rigut to pursue thsir occupations; (3) Japanese ships bo permitted to caff at closed ports for the purpose of transporting of goods resulting irom Japanese enterprise; (4) The partial opening of coastwise shipping to Japanese ships; (5) to permit Japanese residents to develop the fishing industry; (6) Japanese participation in tho development of aviation communication.
Mr. Ishii said the Dutch replied that the basis cf Dutch policy was based on progress, prosperity and the emancipation of the indies inhabitants. The Dutch reserved the right at any time to reduce the amount of exports to Japan of essential war materials to which Japan attaches importance.
