Tiakitahuna

(From Our Own Correspondent.) A large crowd was present when a send-off was tendered Sgt. R. Rowland and Ptc. A. Fletcher. On behalf of the residents, Mr. J. Callesen presented tokens to the two soldiers while extending to them every good wish for the future. Novelty dances were held and vocal solos from Miss P. Buchanan were much appreciated. Tho Juno monthly meeting of the Women’s Institute was presided over by Mrs. 11. N. McEwen. After a dis eussion on forming of St. John Ambulance classes, it was decided to commence in the near future. A large amount of khaki wool had been pro cured from the local patriotic shop and members spent part of tho evening knitting. A competition for the best wholemeal loaf was won by Miss M. Rowland with Mrs. D. Rowland second, Miss E. Richardson third. Supper was served by the hostesses, Mrs. H. Iggles* d'en and Miss I. Fell. An enjoyable evening was spent wh-en a dance \ias held in honour of Miss Pamela Buchanan prior to her departure to England. Miss Buchanan was gracefully attired in an evening gown of black velvet skirt and a green georgette blouse. Mr. J. Callesen, on behalf of those present, wished the guest of honour bon-voyage and on behalf of the members of the local Patriotic Committee, presented her with a small token of esteem. Mr. Bee, of Kairanga, also made a presentation on behalf of the residents of the Kairanga district. In thanking tho people, Miss Buchanan replied in a charming manner. Mr. A. Buchanan also voiced his appreciation at the farewell tendered his daughter. Later in the evening vocal solos were sung by Miss Buchanan. Misses L. and J. Hearsey and M. Rowland have left to spend a few days at the Chateau Tongariro. Miss I. Holder, who has left the district, is staying with her mother in Plimmcrton.
