Nazi Naval Chief Threatens America

LONDON, May 25. Admiral-General Raeder, Comnmnder-nin-Chief of the German Navy, in on interview to-day with a representative of the Japanese Domei News Agency, levelled threats at the United States Navy. He said that Germany would consider the convoying of merchantmen a plain act of war. German warships, he asserted, would be justified in dealing with United States warships in accordance with international law, and would be justified, too, in forcing American warships to cease their operations. Raeder referred to convoying as being “a new service -in favour of Britain,” and said that the United States’ attitude was extremely grave.
