Drainage from the Peilding saleyards is a problem which the Borough Council is interesting itself in and this morning a consulting engineer is expected to arrive in Peilding to carry out a survey of tho position.

Mr. James Knight, of Peilding, who has been a member of the executive of tho Peilding A. and P. Association for many years and is one of tho oldest memoers of tne association, retired from tho position at the annual meeting ot tne association on Priday nignt. Alien) effectively disposed of the unfounded allegation and statement was unanimously accepted. Mr. Alien rexused to permit any deDate on tho suojeot of the K.s.A.'s attitude towards tho Dexenco League, which issue, lie stated, had been disposed oi at tho recent annual meeting of the local branch.
Tho proposals of the Public Works Department for tho creation of a nauonai organisation to deal with rivor control was mentioned at Saturday’s special meeting of tho Peilding Borougu uouncil when Crs. C. B. McClure and u. J. Dewo verbally reported on the recent conference of local oociy representatives called to consider the proposed legislation. Tho iViayor (Mr. T. L. Seddon) stated that he nad perused tho document which embodied far-reaching proposals framed to approach tho problem of river control on a national basis. There was provision for tho classification of all lands in anticipation of rating, and evidence was to be taken by a Parliamentary recess committee which had been set up for the purpose. The council agreed to bo identified with the subsequent proceedings and Crs. Dewe and McClure were appointed to watch the matter on .behalf of Peilding.
