FIVE ENEMY SHIPS SUNK OFF LIBYA
DESTROYER TORPEDOED (British Official Wireless) (Rec. 24, 12.45) RUGBY, May 23. A troopship of abont 9000 tons and a tanker of about 7000 tons have been sunk by our submarines off Libya, says an Admiralty communique. An Italian destroyer, the communique adds, was hit by a torpedo, and it is considered probable that she was sunk. A large schooner of the type used for ammunition carrying also was sunk, and a somewhat smaller schooner was shelled at anchor and hit several times. To-day's communique from British General Headquarters at Cairo states that, in both the Tobruk and Solium areas, British patrols have again been active. In Abyssinia, the battle In the lakes district south of Addis Ababa continues to develop favourably for the British forces. Following the repulse of a counter-attack, 800 Italian prisoners were captured. The victory of Amba Alagi is referred to in a special order of the day issued by the Commander-in-Chief, General Cunningham, as being a triumph of manoeuvre and individual gallantry.
