Carpenters Elect New Officers
(0.C.) 'WELLINGTON, May 23. As a sequel to the special meeting of the Wellington Carpenters and Joiners’ Union held a fortnight ago, when an anti-war resolution carried at a sparsely-attended executive meeting was rescinded and those responsible removed from office, a further meeting last night elected a new set of officers to fill the vacancies. There was an attendance of 207 members. It was explained at an early stage that the portion of the resolution previously carried removing from office those lesponsible for the anti-war resolution, Messrs W. A. Jamieson (president), L. J. Buxton (executive member), and W. McAra (organiser), “for the duration of the war,” was not in accordance with the rules, and that they were eligible for re-election. In the subsequent voting Messrs Jamieson, Buxton and McAra were replaced by nominees of the rank-and-file committee. who organised the special meeting. rue meeting was opened to the Press after a noisy discussion. A section expressed hostility to union affairs becoming public property, but the decision was carried by a large majority. \\ hen the two Press representatives were ushered in they were greeted with cheers and hoots.
