U.S. Navy to Create Task Forces

IMPORTANT MISSIONS WASHINGTON, May 22. The Naval Committee *of the House of Representatives, acting on the Administrator’s request, to-day approved legislation authorising the creation «f additional vice-admirals to comimand special “Task forces’* to carry out important sea missions. Admiral Nimitz, Chief of the Navy Bureau for Navigation, told the committee that he was not at liberty to disclose the missions. He agreed that it was conceivable that the bulk of the navy at present in the Pacific might be split up in order to carry out special missions. “The Neutrality Act is a violation of our most sacred and important tradition of foreign policy, which is freedom of the seas.” said the Secretary for War, Mr Henry Stimson, at a Press conference to-day. He urged that repeal of the Act should be carefully considered “in connection with the delivery of goods to Britain.”
